Violence Continues on Las Vegas Strip with another Shooting Incident
Another shooting took place along the Las Vegas Strip, marking yet another incident of violence in the area.
Over the past few weeks, incidents of violence involving shootings have occurred on a regular basis on the Las Vegas Strip. Police have been called out to several spots along the Strip to handle issues with the most recent incident taking place at the South Point Hotel Casino. On Sunday afternoon, security officers shot an armed man at the casino, who later died due to his wounds.
According to multiple reports, an unidentified man was shot near the valet area of the casino. He had both entered and exited the casino, brandishing a handgun. He pointed the gun at two security guards who were located outside the casino and would not drop the weapon.
A standoff occurred and eventually the officers shot the man. It appears as though, based on local news station reports, that the gun of the victim malfunctioned.
In a press conference later on in the day, Metro Police Lt. Raymond Spencer praised the officers for their actions at the casino. There was major concern for guests and passerby as the incident took place at the valet area of the hotel.
Speculation surrounding the incident makes it appear as though the victim was in his 40s and homeless. Police are currently investigating the incident and casino operations were shut down for a short time to deal with the matter.
Additional Strip Shootings
This is not the first incident to take place on the Strip in recent weeks involving a shooting. Several serious incidents have taken place and with so much violence in the area, it could lead to even lesser tourists coming in.
In September, a car drove by the Stage Door Casino in the area and fired into a crowd within a parking lot. Three people were wounded in that incident. Near the Aria Resort & Casino, an individual was shot in the leg after getting into a fight. This shooting took place at the same time as a birthday party was taking place at the casino for rapper MoneyBagg Yo. He denies any connection to the incident.
Yet another incident involves the Paris Las Vegas. A fight took place at this casino and a victim was shot five times along with another victim shot during the incident. A shooting also took place at the MGM Grand Las Vegas when a shot was fired on the gaming floor as individuals struggled over a gun.
Many of these incidents seem to stem from fighting. An incident involving a huge fight took place out in the open near the LINQ and the Flamingo. A fight took place involving five to 10 men and one pulled out a handgun. He fired a shot and a victim was hit in the torso. The Flamingo casino and hotel were on lockdown for quite some time after this incident occurred.
The Metro Police Department has a special Convention Center Area Command which takes care of the resorts located on the Strip. They reported an increase of around 29% when it comes to aggravated assaults as of September.
Nevada Governor Steve Sisolak was asked about the incidents during a recent press conference stating that much of the crime is taking place due to people from out of town. He reiterated that he has the utmost confidence in the police department and their ability to get out front of the problem and get a handle on it.
We shall see in the coming weeks if such incidents continue to take place along the Strip. So far, it is unclear as to if police have increased patrols or taken other measures to ensure that such shooting incidents do not occur again.
