Rivers Casino Pittsburgh Prize Winner Attacked & Robbed

An elderly man was recently attacked and rubbed after a visit to the Rivers Casino Pittsburgh.

Experts agree that anyone visiting a casino that earns a big win should be weary of their surroundings when traveling home. When possible, opt for a check after earning a win instead of taking a large sum of cash from the casino. While it doesn’t happen every day, patrons of casinos are robbed on a regular basis if an individual finds an opportunity to attack. That is exactly what happened to an elderly man who recently visited the Rivers Casino Pittsburgh.

Details of the Attack

The elderly man who remains unnamed drove home from the casino to his residence in Aspinwall, Pennsylvania. The mas was reportedly followed and attacked by 28-year-old Jaimeca Johnson. Once the victim arrived home and entered his driveway, Johnson reportedly pulled a gun and said that he must give her his money, or she would shoot.

The victim was hit with the gun and the assailant took $1,500 from his pocket. Police stated that the attacker fled the scene and police were notified of the incident just before 2:00 am. The victim was 66 years old and suffered face and head injuries from the attack. He was taken to a local hospital and expected to recover from his injuries.

It was later on the following morning that Johnson was identified as the suspect. She was charged with carrying a firearm without a license and other charges, including reckless endangerment of another individual. The money she allegedly took from the victim was won from the casino’s sportsbook.

Casino Surveillance Footage Helps Catch the Assailant

Police reported that the surveillance footage from the casino assisted in the capture of Johnson. The video from the scene was reviewed and it showed Johnson allegedly following the elderly victim from where he cashed out to the elevator. She then followed him to the parking garage.

The footage showed that Johnson got off the elevator on a different floor then the winner. She then got in her car and drove the wrong way to reach the floor where the man was getting into his car. The footage then shows her following him as he traveled back home.

Rivers Casino has more than one thousand surveillance cameras that monitor the property on a twenty-four-hour basis. The diligent security system came in handy during this instance as it allowed police to follow the man’s activity and see who was following him and supposedly tracked him to his residence.

It may take time, but such surveillance footage can easily be used to keep track of patrons and what’s going on in the casino. In this instance, the footage was used to identity the alleged attack and get her off the streets.

Neighbors of the victim were shocked by the news, but glad that the individual suspected of attacking the man was taken into custody. Police are also asking if anyone has any details on the incident to speak with investigators.

While this incident is not too common at casinos, it should be considered by players who visit such gaming venues frequently. It is always a good idea to be aware of your surroundings, especially if you are carrying a large amount of cash on your person. By keeping a watchful eye, you can avoid anyone following you outside or to your home where a similar attack could occur. Hopefully the arrest and potential charge the assailant faces will keep others from wanting to try and rob other casino winners.
