Pennsylvania Man Faces Casino Murder Charge
A man from Pennsylvania is facing extradition to New Jersey, due to allegedly killing a casino patron and stealing the victim’s winnings.
When visiting a casino, every player hopes to be a big winner. Some players might go home with hundreds of dollars in prizes, while others may earn thousands. It’s all about the luck of the draw. Players get really excited over a win, but it is also important to be cautious. Criminals often visit casinos in the hopes of running a scam or robbing someone of a big win. Just recently, a man from New Jersey was killed by a man from Pennsylvania after winning a $10k jackpot.
The victim was reportedly followed by Jekai Reid-John from the Parx Casino in Pennsylvania to Plainsboro, New Jersey. The casino visitor was attacked in his home, shot and robbed. He later died from his injuries.
Details of the Attack
After Sree Aravapalli won $10,000 at Parx Casino, he was reportedly followed home by Reid-John. The victim was followed, and he traveled to his home, where Reid-John attacked. The attacker is said to have used a sliding door to gain entry into the home. Several shots were fired at the victim, and he was hit many times according to prosecutors.
Neighbors told police that after the gunshots went off, a car sped from the scene. Aravapalli was taken to a local hospital by ambulance but died soon after arriving for medical treatment. Aravapalli arrived home after the win, just as he normally would, with his wife and teen daughter fast asleep. He was attacked in his home while his family members slept.
Last week, Reid-John was charged with first degree murder in the case. More charges may be added and for now, he is being held in the Montgomery County jail. It is unclear how detectives know it was Reid-John that followed the victim home, but it is expected that security footage from the casino as well as other areas are in play.
The murder of Mr. Aravapalli is a prime example of how casino visitors need to be aware of their surroundings and always keep an eye out for potential problems. People should generally be watchful at all times, but when leaving a casino with a large cash prize, the amount of attention you give your surroundings should be increased.
Of course, no one expects to be followed home, shot and killed, but it can happen. When visiting a casino, it is important to always stay vigilant. Be aware of who is around you and try to avoid cashing in big wins for a cash prize. Most casinos will give you a check or they might offer other ways to pay out a jackpot prize.
Don’t walk away with a large win in cash and certainly don’t make it well known in the casino. Criminals often target big winners because they are carrying such large amounts of cash. Pay attention to who is around you and even ask security to walk you to your car if needed. When leaving, pay attention to other cars on the road, and make sure that you are not being followed.
It’s smart to go to the casino with friends and family members, so you can watch out for each other. However, in some cases, the people you travel with might also be an issue. In early October, a man was traveling from the Wind Creek Bethlehem Casino when he was stabbed by the passenger in his car.
Stay safe by knowing who you are traveling with and take caution when leaving a casino after a big jackpot win. You never know who might be watching you.
